Throughout my lifetime I've been fascinated with the integration and creation of art in everyday life. My ongoing studies have led me to my current experimentations. I've created my artwork while working as a Master Scenic Artist for film, television/video and theatre. Paint is spilled, smudged, tested, matched and stained. Notes are taken, gestures and expressions appear from my renderings and sketches. While capturing this active and ongoing work process, figures are bound to appear, but it is the intentional unconscious stain upon which the imagery is based, either real or imaginary. Because the drawing has a life of its own, I have no fear of the images being covered or destroyed by the layering. I impose nothing on these drawings but merely give the imagery a voice to manifest itself.
My objective is to tap into what Carl Jung describes as the 'Collective Unconscious', experiencing the drawing through me rather than consciously making marks, reinforcing the notion that all things are interconnected and inseparable. Like the viewer, I also step back to interpret what has been revealed in the drawing.
